Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. When she was a kid she attended at the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma chose to be an actor when she was six. For several years she was enrolled in the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing dance, acting and singing. When she was 10, she had already taken part in many Stagecoach plays and productions. The casting process began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that, after auditioning for eight times they and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first film appearance was made with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). It also was the most successful film of 2001. Its opening days and weekends of ticket sales were record-breaking. Critics praised the film and the performances of the three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma's performance was recognized and won five awards later for the film.
