In addition, she was a Secret Service Agent in White House Down, an action thriller from 2013, she was a musician on the set of Frank (2014) as well as The lead for the lead role in The Kindergarten Teacher, a drama that was released in the year of 2018. Gyllenhaal made her debut as a director and writer in 2021 with her drama about psychological issues The Lost Daughter. For this film she was awarded an award for the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award.
